The ZALAI CSIKÓSOK are a group of riders from the western part of
Hungary. In their shows they revive the traditions of the Csikós,
the Hungarian horse herders. These have contributed significantly to
the country’s cultural heritage. With their horse-riding skills they have
helped Hungary become renown as a nation of riders.
Baranyai Zoltán, the founder and leader of ZALAI CSIKÓSOK, not only
continues a tradition of his home country but also a family tradition.
Several of his ancestors worked as horse herders. Apart from the horse
shows Baranyai Zoltán also lives and works with horses, though in a
rather modern manner. However, his affinity with the traditions has
remained and he likes to share it with the audience.
During the summer months ZALAI CSIKÓSOK perform weekly in various
Hungarian cities. In addition they are available for village fairs, festivals,
tournaments, travel groups, company parties and more. The group’s
performances are not limited to Hungary - there have been performances in
the Western neighbouring countries as well. |
